Thanks to the brilliant guys on the Transit Forum, I met up with dieselhead (over in Hoo), who had a little present for me.

A couple of days later, we lugged this into the workshop.

Our brand new (not really) 2.0 litre Pinto engine.  Now that’s a lot better than trying to tune a 1.6, and it means we might actually be able to drive the camper uphill!

So apparently it’s in good nick, but it threw the crank oil seal when it last ran.  Best case scenario, it just needs a new set of bearings.  Not a problem, and we’re happy to give it a go.
